Paul Shailer’s confidence in our debut runner Silken Salute wasn’t misplaced with the youngster away to a dream career start at Eagle Farm.
The Gold Coast trainer expected the son of Hello Youmzain to make an impact over 1300 metres and so it proved with the two-year-old rounding off powerfully in the run home.
“He’s a nice style of horse and always showed speed, but we’ve given him the time to mature and lengthen and we banked on him being strong late, which he was,” Shailer said.
We bred Silken Salute and remained in the ownership after he was sold for A$60,000 to Shailer and Julian Blaxland Bloodstock at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
He is the first foal of the Savabeel mare Savasilk, who was successful on two occasions and is from the family of Group winners Miraval Rose, Gypsy Diamond and Finance Tycoon.
Savasilk produced a filly by Almanzor last season and is back in foal to Hello Youmzain.
