Bavicia successfully returned to action with a strong performance at Cranbourne.
The Almanzor five-year-old was returning off a two-month break and a jump-out on his home track at Pakenham had him ready to shine for trainers Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman.
Bavicia settled three back on the fence before apprentice Emily Pozman was able to angle into clear air before the turn and the gelding finished powerfully for his third victory from 12 appearances.
Bred by Octagon Bloodstock and Rangiora Bloodstock, he was offered by Curraghmore at New Zealand Bloodstock’s Ready to Run Sale where he was bought back by Octagon for $260,000.
Bavicia subsequently realised $330,000 when bought out of Phoenix Park’s draft at the Ready to Run Sale by McEvoy Mitchell Racing and Bevan Smith Bloodstock.
He is the first winner for the Guillotine mare Tricoteuse whose dam is a half-sister to the G1 New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes winner Arlingtonboulevard.
Bavicia’s three-year-old brother Alliance finished fourth in his sole appearance to date from Bil Thurlow’s stable while the dam also has a Sword Of State yearling colt.
