Ascension added winning momentum to her fledgling career in fine style at Ruakaka.
The daughter of Almanzor, who had previously placed three times from a handful of starts, justified her trainer’s high rating with a dominant display over 1600 metres.
“To get that maiden win is a big relief, I’ve always had a big opinion of her,” Samantha Logan said.
“We’ll look after her and give her a freshen-up and then make a plan and hopefully get some black-type, that would be the icing on the cake.”
Ascension loped along in second spot before apprentice Sam McNab allowed the three-year-old to stride to the front before the turn and they careered away to score by five and a-half lengths.
“She had got back in her last couple, so we wanted to put her in the race,” Logan said.
Ascension is raced by breeders Brown Thoroughbreds and Lib Petagna’s JML Bloodstock and is a half-sister to stakes winners Sergio and Windsor.
Their dam is the Lonhro mare Shanro, who is in foal to Sword Of State, and she is out of a sister to the two-time Australian Group 2 winner Camena, also a multiple placegetter at the highest level.
